Federal government trails 23 states on minimum wage
The second part of a multi-stage hike in the federal minimum wage takes effect tomorrow, raising the wage from $5.85 to $6.55 per hour. But many states are a step ahead of the federal government when it comes to guaranteeing a fair wage. Today’s Snapshot by EPI policy analyst Mary Gable illustrates which states have a higher-than-federal minimum wage. Almost 60 percent of the workforce now lives in states that have a minimum wage higher than the federal level.
