Today at 11 a.m. Eastern, Jaimie Worker, EPI and the EARN Network’s Senior State Policy Coordinator will join U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) to discuss the impact of mass unemployment and progress in the latest round of federal pandemic relief. As the last package of bills expired last week, the Senate and House of Representatives found themselves at an impasse. Sen. Stabenow will explain why continuing enhanced jobless benefits is so important until the virus is contained and it is safe for people to return to work.
They will be joined by unemployed Michigan stagehand and waitress Lindseay Katerberg, who will describe what life has been like since mass gatherings have been restricted and her work at a convention center dried up, as did her side job as a waitress. They will also be joined by Jessica Westra, a landlord who would not be receiving rent from her tenants without the extra $600 weekly Pandemic Unemployment Assistance payments.
