Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, EPI Director of External and Government Affairs Christian Dorsey will testify at a hearing on how the federal government promotes a low-wage economy through federal contracts, hosted by the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD). Dorsey’s testimony will focus on the policy decisions that have become the primary drivers of rising inequality nationwide.
“Rising income inequality means that those at the middle and lower end of income distribution are finding food and housing increasingly unaffordable, and can’t save adequately for retirement,” Dorsey argues. “More and more, ordinary Americans are accumulating debt to maintain their living standards and invest in education and training, and are very vulnerable to economic slowdowns and displacement.”
The hearing will be live streamed on the CPC website.
