On Wednesday, May 27th, at 12:00pm Eastern, the Economic Policy Institute will hold a press call to release The Class of 2015: Despite an Improving Economy, Young Grads Still Face an Uphill Climb, a new examination of the labor market conditions facing young graduates entering the workforce. In the report, senior economist Elise Gould and research assistants Will Kimball and Alyssa Davis find that unemployment and underemployment rates among young high school and college graduates remain substantially higher than before the Great Recession began, though they are improving.
As wages for both young high school and college graduates stagnate, and as the cost of education skyrockets, graduating into a labor market with limited job opportunities remains treacherous. Gould, Kimball, and Davis will break down the unemployment and underemployment rates for young high school and college graduates, and discuss the factors behind these still-elevated economic indicators. Importantly, they will address how graduating in a bad economy has long-lasting economic consequences and what policy solutions can help young high school and college graduates succeed.
