On Wednesday, September 5, from 4:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m., the AFL-CIO and the Economic Policy Institute will host Nancy J. Altman for a discussion of her new book, The Truth About Social Security: The Founders’ Words Refute Revisionist History, Zombie Lies, and Common Misunderstandings (Strong Arm Press, 2018).
Today’s discussions of Social Security are replete with revisionist history—claims about what was or was not intended by its original creators and champions. Some are claims made by critics that have been refuted again and again over the last eighty years but refuse to die. Others come from supporters who mean well but perpetuate misconceptions.
In her latest book, Nancy J. Altman, President of Social Security Works and renowned Social Security expert, uses the program’s founders’ own words to debunk myths and reveal the truth about the most popular and successful government program in our nation’s history.
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Your RSVP will help us prepare.
