On Thursday, September 20, political pollster Stan Greenberg will talk about his new book, It’s the Middle Class, Stupid! at an event open to the public at the Economic Policy Institute .
Greenberg and his coauthor, political commentator James Carville, argue that the deterioration of the middle class should be the dominant theme of the 2012 Presidential election. The authors, veterans of the 1992 Clinton campaign whose slogan “it’s the economy, stupid” framed the debate during that election, propose a new, albeit familiar, slogan for this year’s contest. In their book, they present charts and graphs furnished by EPI that detail the deterioration of the middle class and propose policy prescriptions to strengthen the middle class and restore it as an engine of growth.
Greenberg will discuss the research that forms the book’s thesis and engage in a discussion with the audience on why a focus on the middle class should take priority over every other issue this election season.
